The Doctor of Nursing Practice program’s psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner track trains nurses to offer complete mental health care to people of all ages who are at risk of or have psychiatric disorders or mental health issues.

The program focuses on collaborating with a diverse team to help patients recover and promote mental health within the context of individuals, families, health care settings and society.

Upon completion, graduates can pursue national certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). TCU graduates’ pass rate is 100%.

Clinical Experience

One year of full-time RN experience is preferred. One year of experience in mental health is also preferred. Applicants without mental health experience will be considered.

Applicants who are accepted into the program without prior experience in mental health will be granted conditional admission. As a condition of enrollment, students must obtain a minimum of one year of full-time experience in mental health nursing before beginning any NP practicum courses. This requirement ensures students are adequately prepared for the mental health complexity care environments encountered during clinical training. Proof of mental health experience must be submitted and verified before progressing to the practicum phase of the program.
